Creative Garden Spaces Inc. specializes in the design and building of waterfalls, pools and streams that become integrated features in the natural landscape.  Natural water features add improved diversity to ecosystems and create a world of movement and sound in their surrounding environment.

Running water naturally attracts wildlife of all kinds.  From buzzing insects and bathing birds, to colorful salamanders and chirping frogs, natural water features will forever enhance your environment with the wonders of nature.

A few words about filtration:

Essentially, your filtration system is the key to enjoying your water feature!

Like the rest of the world, natural water features are complex ecosystems.  While creating an environment that serves to generate life, it is also subject to the necessary processes of decomposition.  In the natural world, these processes are absorbed by acres of land, with feet thick layers of boggy humus mass.  In a closed system, as is created by the average water feature, there are many different technologies used & developed over the years that serve to isolate those many acres into a very small footprint within your garden.  The two different styles to consider are mechanical & biological.  In some cases, hybrids of the two are combined to create a superior system that is capable of not only physically removing suspended debris from the water column, but also performs to complete the nitrogen cycle, there by cleaning the water of Ammonia and maintaining a viable ecosystem.

Implementations of these two styles may be as simple or as complex as the system demands.  From small skimmer boxes with filter pads, to entire rooms filled with automated monitoring equipment, we have tremendous experience in the installation of both.

Our favorite means of filtration to implement in today’s water gardens is a system known as Marginal or Bog filtration.  What began decades ago in Europe as a quest to make swimming pools healthier and free of chemicals, has become a tried and true science of aquatic biology.  A simple formula has been used for years now, to create a perfectly balanced ecosystem within a small body of water that takes advantage of and utilizes all of Nature’s natural processes to filter and clean the water to beyond EPA standards.

In addition, the installation of this system’s Marginal planting further promotes the beautification of the water garden by ensuring a certain level of integration into the landscape, therefore, blurring the lines between the two elements.  In effect, the water garden as a whole becomes an all inclusive, and self sustaining, biological ecosystem.  They require minimum maintenance for maximum enjoyment.
